Diversity
Commitment to Diversity
The UC Davis Law Review is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both its membership and its scholarship. Diversity is defined broadly — and includes groups and experiences traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession — as well as the intersections thereof.
The journal has two goals: (1) to foster intellectual discourse in the legal community through diverse scholarship, and (2) to provide a valuable educational experience to a diverse group of law students. The journal also acknowledges the systemic inequalities that exist within the legal profession and recognizes the role Law Reviews play in dismantling these barriers.
In an effort to do our part, the journal has and continues to take active steps towards an inclusive and accessible environment for all. These steps include:
- Institutionalizing the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Editor position as a part of the UC Davis Law Review’s Executive Board, spearheaded by Danielle Patterson (’20), Nick Lee (’20), and Yana Pavlova (’20), with assistance from the First Generation Advocates Board
- Establishing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to develop, review, and implement the Law Review’s diversity-related initiatives
- Collecting qualitative and quantitative feedback from the King Hall community on Law Review’s processes, and utilizing this information to make data-driven decisions
- Partnering with King Hall organizations and affinity groups to co-sponsor events that promote diversity in legal scholarship
The UC Davis Law Review’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, composed of both 2L Members and 3L Editors, leads the journal’s diversity initiatives. Volume 57’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Editors Damian J. Cortez and Courtney Patton can be reached at djcortez@ucdavis.edu and cspatton@ucdavis.edu.
